Picking Your Broadband Internet Provider Just Got Easier

The Federal Communications Commission just recently announced new required broadband labels for internet providers. With these new broadband labels you will have full disclosure, and will never be a victim hidden fees. These labels will tell you everything you need to know about your internet connection, so you can say goodbye to fine print!

According to the FCC, these labels are designed to provide vital price and performance information about both mobile and fixed broadband internet services. These labels will aid you in selecting an internet provider for your business, and spare you any surprises when your first bill arrives. FCC Chairman Tom Wheeler voiced his support for the new labels, stating, “Customers deserve to know the price they will actually pay for a service and to be fully aware of other components such as data limits and performance factors before they sign up for service.”

The layout of the broadband labels is somewhat reminiscent of Nutrition Fact labels you might find on various food products. Instead of an ingredient list and calorie count, however, you’ll see data pricing info, which includes information of overage fees, equipment charges, and early termination and administration fees. The labels also contain information on performance metrics, data allowances, and much, much more. These new, detailed broadband labels are sure to make the process of selecting a broadband internet provider easier, and less painful. Never again will you have to read through lengthy contracts in order to uncover those hidden and potentially excessive fees.

Here are a couple examples of the new FCC Broadband Labels, taken directly from the FCC website:

Internet service providers are not required to use the new labels, but they are still subject to the transparency requirements stated in the FCC’s Net Neutrality Order. The FCC designed the labels as a convenient way for internet service providers to comply with these rules, while also making it easier for consumers and business users to know what they’re getting.

While mobile broadband providers like DataXoom aren’t affected by this recent FCC action, we believe businesses, like consumers, deserve simple, reliable access to the mobile internet.  We’re considering utilizing the FCC’s template to showcase our industry-leading, multi-carrier price plans.  Because our pricing includes all government fees and taxes, is consistent across underlying wireless carriers, and offers the lowest overage fees in the wireless industry, we believe we’d show quite well in this proposed format.

Frustrated with hidden fees and overage charges? DataXoom is an MVNO mobile data provider that caters exclusively to businesses. DataXoom requires no long-term contracts, no overage charges, and no early termination fees. With DataXoom, you always know what you’re getting. Interested in what DataXoom can offer your company?
